Chandigarh is witnessing a steady decline in dengue cases since the last week as minimum and maximum temperatures have begun to drop in the city.
According to Dr Suman Singh, Director, Health Services, Chandigarh, last week, about 15 cases were being reported daily, but now fewer patients are being diagnosed with dengue, and the coming week will see further decline.
So far, the Union Territory (UT) has reported 300 dengue cases. As compared to last year, dengue cases are fewer in Chandigarh, with 2023 recording 454 dengue-positive cases, 2022 reporting 910 cases, and 2021 as many as 1,596 cases.
Panchkula so far has reported 1,296 dengue cases this year. As many as four cases were reported on Tuesday. According to Dr Sandeep Jain, District Medical Officer, Panchkula, July to November are peak months for dengue fever, when the Aedes Aegypti mosquito breeds and spreads the virus.
A drop in temperature is one factor for the graph showing a decline and the next ten days will see a further drop, Jain added.
In the cases observed so far, Den 2 strain is more visible. The symptoms of this strain are high fever, vomiting, sore throat, red spots on the chest and headache. As symptoms of dengue and seasonal fever are very similar, after three days of fever, patients are advised to get an antigen or antibody test done without delay.
