A 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Phase 2,Ram Darbar,on Tuesday morning. The body of Samta Basia was spotted by her brother after she did not respond to repeated knocks at the door. She was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,where she was declared dead on arrival, the police said.
The family was, however, not satisfied with the medical examination and took her body to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, the investigating officer added. The police said a suicide note was recovered from her room in which she did not hold anybody responsible saying she was sorry for not being able to live up to expectations.
The police said Samta, who was pursuing Master of Education from Government College of Education in Sector 20,was normal till last night. Her father Ganga Ram is a government employee.
The police said it received the information around 7.55 am from the Sector-32 hospital saying the body of a girl with injuries on her neck had been brought there.
Police sources said the woman allegedly hanged herself over a recent marriage proposal which did not finally end up in marriage as it was turned down. A marriage proposal from a family in Delhi had failed to materialise into marriage and her family members said last night they were now discussing the possibility of a match with a Karnal resident, the investigating officer said.
