Home to many architects,Chandigarh is the perfect place to host the national awards, said MP Rawal,administrator,Architect of the Year Awards (AYA) and president of J K Cement Ltd,as he organised the award ceremony on Thursday at Hotel Taj. Shivraj Patil,Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T. of Chandigarh was the chief guest. Architects from various parts of the country and neighboring countries like Sri Lanka,Mauritius and Nepal were also present on the occasion, he added. Architect of the Year Awards is the brainchild of Y.P. Singhania,Managing Director,J.K. Cement Ltd,who was also present on the occasion. The entries for the awards were invited from India as well as selected neighboring countries. A jury comprising eminent national and international architects chose the winners. The awards were divided into three categories: Indian Architecture Awards,Indian State Architecture Awards And Focus Countries Architecture Awards. These had further subdivisions like Architect of the Year Award,Commendation Award and Young Architects Award with cash prizes ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
