Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has written to the heads of all educational institutions in the state to strictly enforce the Anti-Ragging Ordinance 2009 in order to control incidents of ragging and bullying.
Dhumal has specified that the government will not hesitate in booking heads of institutions for any fresh case of ragging or bullying of students. Last week, there had been reports of bullying and physical assault on students of Class IX at Shimlas reputed Bishop Cotton School. Two students subsequently left the school.
Dhumal has sent a special advisory to the BCS headmaster to step up vigil in the hostels by the House Masters and the staff, said sources in the CMs office.
Dhumal conveyed his displeasure to the principals about lack of accountability among the staff members, who are supposed to check ragging and report the matter to higher authorities. Now with Himachal Pradesh Anti-Ragging Ordinance having a provision to register FIRs against the head of the institutions, there should not be any lapse at any stage,Dhumal said.
In higher educational institutions, where ragging has a connection with alcoholism and drug addiction, the educational institutions should take measures for de-addiction,Dhumal said.
