More than fortnight after DSP Balraj Singh Gill and a woman,Monica Kapila, were found murdered at a farmhouse here, the police officials have begun the onerous task of sifting through lakhs of phone calls and hours of video footage in an effort to get a clue to the killings.
The move comes even as the Special Investigation Team constituted to crack the case is yet to make any breakthrough.
Deputy Commissioner of Police,Ashish Choudhry said,The team of experts will reach Ludhiana by Sunday and would analyse the data. We have collected data from all the service providers and have the entire software in place. The data is voluminous and the team will stay with us till the task is complete.
When asked about the volume, Choudhry said,In a city like Ludhiana,a single tower receives some 40,000 calls in an hour and here we are looking at all the towers that are located in and around the area of the crime. The DSP and Monica were found murdered at a farm house located on Hambran Raod.
The DCP added that the police officials already gone through the calls details of DSP Gill who carried three mobile phones and Monicas number too. Apart from establishing that the two knew each other there is nothing else that we could find from the calls that the two exchanged.
We are looking for that third person who was in the area of crime on February 1 and stayed there till wee hours of February 2. It is these numbers that we need to zero down on. The service providers have sent us details of lakhs of calls and the same can be sifted by experts only. So we roped in these telephone call experts. As far as this video footage is concerned we have some four hard disks full, he added.
