Eight of a family booked for forgery

The police have booked eight members of a family for forgery,cheating and criminal conspiracy for preparing fake voter identity cards of two members of the family by showing them as non-resident Indians concealing their US citizenship.

The police have booked eight members of a family for forgery,cheating and criminal conspiracy for preparing fake voter identity cards of two members of the family by showing them as non-resident Indians (NRIs),concealing their US citizenship.

A case has been registered on a complaint lodged by owner of a restaurant in Sector 35.

The complaint Alamjit Singh Mann alleged that Amarjeet Singh Randhawa and his wife Amandeep Kaur,residents of Sector 27,earlier lived in the city with Amarjeet’s father Harbans Singh Randhawa,mother Balbir Kaur,relatives Birinder Singh,his wife Havinder Kaur,Jaswinder Singh and his wife Narinder Kaur.

Amarjeet and his wife Amandeep migrated to the USA and acquired citizenship in 2001.

Mann in his complaint alleged that the couple came to India and got their names included in the voter list in violation of the Representation of People Act,under which only a citizen of India is entitled to get enrolled in the voter list.

Citing the Constitution of India,Mann said a person,who voluntarily acquires citizenship of a foreign country,ceases to be a citizen of India .

Mann alleged that the parents and the other family members named in the case knowingly furnished the wrong details to get the couple enlisted in the voter’s list.

The police have registered a case against the accused at the Sector-36 police station.
