The busy schedules of working-class city residents appear to have brought an advantage to the e-commerce industry in widening its consumer base,if the number of residents in the city availing of the e-shopping facility is anything to go by. “We are seeing a growing trend of e-shopping from Chandigarh area after our focused outdoor campaign and our current TV campaign. We register about 150-200 orders everyday across the three cities (Panchkula,Chandigarh,Mohali) while Chandigarh contributes to a majority of sales,” said,Ashutosh Lawania,Co-Founder & Head of Marketing & Sales,Myntra.com.

With India being hailed as one of the fastest growing customer bases for the internet, the booming IT hub of Chandigarh is at par with the growing national preoccupation with surfing online. Busy lifestyles and the smoldering heat have forced many shopaholics to sit at their workplace PC and order clothes and accessories online, noted market analysts.

The facility of ‘cash on delivery’ which has become a common feature on e-shopping websites over the last couple of months, has taken away the apprehensions of many customers who prefer shopping online. “I can easily order branded clothes, without getting into the complications of online shopping and pay once my order is received,” says Manju,a homemaker from Panchkula.

Nayna Jain,a college student from the city agrees. “Virtual credit cards and pay-on-delivery system has definitely added to the attraction of online shopping. After all, where else does one get branded stuff delivered home, and pay once they are satisfied with the product?” she points out.

Shoes, apparel, and accessories are the most popular items being purchased online, according to marketing experts.
