There’s more to eating out in the city than just inviting menus
Just before the sun began to smile back and the weather brightened up,heading out in the cold seemed like such a chore. But now there’s an all-new reason to head out and even have a good time in the bargain for dining out is no longer just about an inviting menu. “Food,of course, remains the focal point but everyone’s now looking at the complete experience involving a meal out with either family or friends,” points out city-based restaurateur Abhay Jagat. While his Oriental lounge – Orchid Lounge in Sector 34 – has been dishing out fusion performances by city-based artists Hari Singh and Sukhmani, there’s new action at Cafe Nomad in Sector 7. “To go with the theme of the cafe,we have put together jazz sessions with a live saxophone player in attendance every Wednesday and Thursday evening as well as during the afternoons on Fridays,Saturdays and Sundays,” informs Jagat as we find Dharampal belting out golden oldies on the saxophone to a rapt audience in the Cafe. The wood-fired oven, the jazz tunes, the sumptuous new line-up just adds to the whole experience. “That’s is the aim,” Jagat smiles to say. “We were looking to explore new forms of music and luckily found the saxophone player right here in the city,” adds Jagat.
Speaking of specials,Purple Rice, the Oriental cafe in Sector 35 is offering an eclectic mix of both cuisine and culture by way of its ‘live musical’ evenings every Wednesday and Sunday night. “My performance ranges from slow rock to country music to even some Hindi,” mentions Jasleen Aulakh who recently paired up with French street musician and traveller Louis. “We wanted to introduce French wine and decided to club a theme night for the same,” mentions restaurateur Vipul Dua who feels it’s important to throw up surprises for diners once in a while. “It makes for great combination with newer dishes on the menu,” he says.
Also making efforts to offer a relishing ‘package’ is Hotel Metro’s lounge and bar,The Hangout in Sector 35. “The USP of our place is the techno-electric feel with hot neon colours, gleaming in the dark and our special colour fall schemes,” lists out managing director Jairaj Singh. Boasting of 160 covers and a magnanimous dance floor,Hangout is a restrobar by day and a discotheque on weekends. “During the day,it’s the perfect place to lounge, dig into our special kebab platters and have a drink with friends,” adds Singh who has more plans up his sleeve.
Always making sure their food festivals are packed in not just authentic flavours but a similar mood as well is Hotel Western Court. A Hyderabadi food festival spread over ten days saw Ustad Abdul Hafiz of Punjab Gharana accompanied by his son Ustad Fida Hussain perform all through the event. “Today, diners relish not just a scrumptious menu at the restaurant but a complete outing experience,” the hotel’s group general manager Rajeev Kakkar also asserts.
While elsewhere,Black Magic has taken its restrobar image a step further with all-new music, menu and meals. The place now offers all-new executive lunches in an aim to get everyone to make the most of the well spread out lounge that’s as active during the day as it is at night. What’s more, you can pick and choose the evening according to your mood. “From romantic nights to Sufi specials to evenings dedicated to just popular Bollywood music,we have chalked out a theme for almost each day of the week,” informed Munish Arora, one of the promoters of the restrobar. Surprisingly, apart from weekends,’slow’ days like Mondays and Wednesdays are also being brought into action.
Speaking of action,at the all-new ‘The Daily Bread Cafe’ tucked away in Nalini and Tarun Sibal’s ‘Kid’s Own’ zone in Sector 17,one can choose from Colonial tea service,pizza,paninis,all-American munchies, even tortilla wraps and more and at the same time play some snooker! “Why should kids have all the fun,” cheers Tarun who has a snooker table housed bang in the middle of the cafe along with a special ‘Wii’ gaming console. “Sip,eat, talk, play…there are no restrictions,” he sums it up for us.
