Sidhu Moosewala passed away on May 29, 2022. Unknown bike-borne assailants opened fire outside the house of Pargat Singh, a transporter based in Mansa, on Sunday night. The shooting occurred about 10 days after Singh received a ransom message from a UK-based number, demanding Rs 30 lakh on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi group.
It is worth noting that Singh was considered close to late singer Sidhu Moosewala and had worked as a supporting actor in his song “Mera Naam” although he is not a professional actor.
On January 23, Singh had filed a complaint with Mansa police after receiving the WhatsApp message. The message not only demanded the ransom but also threatened Singh, advising him to hire a gunman and bulletproof his vehicle for protection.
According to CCTV footage from Singh’s residence, two individuals on a motorcycle arrived at around 11 PM on Sunday. They first passed by the house, then turned back to fire twice at the main gate before fleeing. One of the bullets struck the gate. The police were notified, and investigations are underway.
Buta Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Mansa City-2, confirmed the incident, stating, “We received information about the firing on Sunday night. The CCTV footage shows that two rounds were fired by unknown assailants. An FIR has been lodged, and the investigation is ongoing. We are confident that the culprits will be apprehended soon. However, the complainant has not mentioned any connection with Sidhu Moosewala’s family in his statement.”
When asked about the previous ransom threats, the SHO expressed unfamiliarity, noting, “He did not mention any earlier ransom calls in his fresh statement. If he submitted an application regarding this in the past, it would have been investigated or is still under inquiry. We will look into that as part of our investigation, but our immediate focus is on the firing incident.”
