Five more challaning counters to come up at Traffic Lines, Sector 29

The new counters will eliminate the current cumbersome submission process.

DEPOSITING CHALLANS for traffic violations is likely to become easier for city residents, as the traffic police is slated to set up five more challaning counters at the Traffic Lines in Sector 29. At present, there are only two such counters. Speaking to Newsline, Pawan Kumar, DSP (traffic administration), said, “The new counters would end the long queues for paying fines for traffic violations. The renovation work is expected to be completed in the next 10 days. Once completed, the challaning branch will come into service immediately in Sector 29.”

The new counters will eliminate the current submission process wherein a person has to submit his fine at one counter and then submit his documents at the other.

“Now they (people paying the fine) can submit all the necessary documents at one counter. As we have digitised the process of collecting and storing data, people can monitor their challaning status as relevant data will be uploaded on the traffic police website,” the DSP added.

A proposal has also been forwarded by the Chandigarh Police to the Registration and Licensing Authority. In its proposal, the traffic police has asked RLA to merge their data with theirs that will help the police in keeping a check over habitual violators of traffic norms. At present, people are required to submit their challans at the Sector 26, Police Lines, since the main site has been under construction for the last four months.
