Foeticide,blood donation focus of Red Cross Day

The World Red Cross Day was celebrated amid much fanfare on Friday at Tagore Theatre.

The World Red Cross Day was celebrated amid much fanfare on Friday at Tagore Theatre. Organised to mark the third anniversary of Red Cross,social workers and students from schools and colleges were felicitated and presented with mementos for their contributions towards society. City resident Bhupinder Nagpal was awarded for donating blood for 117 times.

Various representatives from institutions across the state and the city that have been involved with the Red Cross were also present.

UT Administrator S F Rodrigues,chief guest on the occasion and president of Punjab State Red Cross Branch,spoke about spreading awareness about female foeticide,donating blood and better education facilities.

Speaking on the occasion,Rodrigues urged people to come forward and contribute to society. “I urge residents to put in whatever efforts they can in strengthening the crusade against female foeticide. Individuals must come forward and donate blood,” he said. Meanwhile,a campaign titled ‘Our world. Your move’ was launched to help victims of war and natural disasters. The campaign will engage volunteers from across the globe to create a difference in the lives those affected by calamities.
