The CBI special court of Darshan Singh on Wednesday acquitted former Controller of Explosives,Dr A K Yadav,in a corruption case.
Yadav was booked in 2006 when he was allegedly caught red-handed,along with a clerk, taking a bribe of Rs 4,500. The official was acquitted after the CBI failed to prove charges against him.
As per the prosecution,Kamal Anand of Baddi,a draftsman, had lodged a complaint with the CBI alleging that officials at the Explosives department had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from him to grant permission to store furnace oil on behalf of his company. As per the allegations,CBI said the accused had initially demanded Rs 5,000 from the complainant but later, the deal was struck at Rs 4,500.
Acting on the complaint,CBI sleuths laid a trap in the Sector-22 office of the department and nabbed the accused. Defence counsel A S Chahal, however, contended that the complainant had lodged a false case against Yadav. Pointing out loopholes in the case,Chahal said the accused had been falsely implicated and the CBI had failed to make any recovery.
