From now,only the trainers of the state police will be sent abroad for any training programmes. It has been decided in principle that no other official of the Punjab Police will be be sent abroad for training courses.

From now,only the trainers of the state police will be sent abroad for any training programmes. It has been decided in principle that no other official of the Punjab Police will be be sent abroad for training courses.

In the first meeting of the recently formed Academic and Training Advisory Council,held on Wednesday,it was decided to reorient and redesign its training parameters to improve the overall field police working effectiveness,said sources.

Punjab Director General of Police P S Gill decided in principle that only the trainers posted in PPA,Phillaur,or any of the the other six training centres of the state police,or district-level trainers,will be sent for training abroad.

An officer said,” It was pointed out in the meeting that officials go abroad on the pretext of attending training programmes but do not even submit a report on the type of training received and the benefits they gained out of them when they return. It is merely a junket for them on government expense.”

Sources said that it was decided to send trainers so they can get addition knowledge and can modify the training schedule according to the conditions here. All the trainers with the state police are of sub-inspector to superintendent of police rank.

“Two years ago a training program was conducted by the United Nations in Italy about riot control and some officials of the state police went,but it was of no use,” said an official.

It has also been decided to invite university professors to deliver lectures on certain subjects.

The officers will be trained in in checking land revenue records,municipal by-laws,unlawful activities Act,hawala Act,forfeiture of property of smugglers,managing huge gatherings,especially during religious functions such as Hola Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib,Jor Mela in Fatehgarh Sahib,Maghi Mela in Talwandi Sabo,besides other functions held every year.

Also,a database of all the trainers and trainees will be prepared to keep track of those have attended the training sessions,said sources.
