With the Chandigarh Police displaying a show of strength, no major untoward incident was reported on Valentine’s Day even as swanky cars flaunting heart-shaped balloons were seen across the gehri route of sectors 8, 9, 10 and 1 throughout the day.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) City Sukhchain Singh Gill said that no untoward incident took place. “The day was peaceful,” he said.

Balloon vendors were seen all across the gehri route and some places at Madhya Marg as well. Ravi, a balloon vendor, said, “We had ample sale today.”
The gates to the girls’ hostels of Panjab University were also closed and cars were not being allowed to go towards the Leisure Valley. Sub-Inspector(S-I) Gyarsi Lal, deputed near the Leisure Valley, said, “There has been constant rush since morning. Endless cars are coming in but no one has created any ruckus.”
SI Sewak Singh said, “Not just youngsters, but middle-aged couples are also enjoying the day.”
Meanwhile, Elante Mall was donned in red, with a heart-shaped selfie stall at the gate no.5 entrance. DSP B S Negi, deputed at Elante, said, “Due to Valentine’s Day and those coming to to watch ‘MSG: The Messenger’, the rush is double today.”
