Gikki murder: Key questions unanswered

The four men accused of murdering Jalandhar hotelier Gurkirat Singh Sekhon alias Gikki were placed in judicial remand till May 13 by a local court.

The four men accused of murdering Jalandhar hotelier Gurkirat Singh Sekhon alias Gikki were placed in judicial remand till May 13 by a local court on Friday. However, the police, who had the accused in their remand for the last seven days, have reportedly failed to obtain satisfactory answers to a number of questions.

Sources said the accused remained uncooperative during their quizzing by police and did not say where they hid for about 40 hours after the murder. They also did not name the persons who provided them sanctuary after the murder on the night intervening April 20 and April 21.

It has come to light that the main accused and SAD councillor Ram Simran Singh Makkar alias Prince Makkar, who is nephew of sitting SAD MLA Sarabjit Singh Makkar, and advocate Sunny Sachdeva had stayed at a farmhouse near Chandigarh before they surrendered in the court late in the afternoon on April 22. But there are no details about this farm house and its owner. The two other accused,Prince Narula and Jasdeep Jassu, were reportedly somewhere in Amritsar but again no details are available. Also, ever since Prince Makkar got his arms licence made,he had not purchased any bullet as per the details of his expired licence, yet he was carrying bullets. He didn’t reveal to the police from where he had procured bullets for his revolver. Even the empty shell of the bullet fired at Gikki could not be recovered.

It may be noted that Prince Makkar as well Sunny Sachdeva were carrying illegal weapons as the licence for both got expired last year and they had never applied for renewal of these licences and police had already challaned them for this.
