At the funeral ceremony,Gurshan’s mother Harpreet Kaur was inconsolable. So were his grandmothers Gurdev Kaur and Sukhwinder Kaur,as the father lifted the lid of the coffin.

“We were so happy after Harjit and his family shifted to Australia. Their chances of coming to Canada were bright,” said Gurdev Kaur,Gurshan’s paternal grandmother who had come down from Canada with her husband Jarnail Singh.

“We thank the people and the government of Australia for holding a memorial service for my grandson. Many people had placed cards and flowers outside their home in memory of Gurshan. At the memorial service, too, three white pigeons were released.”

The toddler’s aunt Veerpal Kaur said Gurshan was well-mannered and soft spoken. “He was bright and vivacious. He loved ice creams,” she said.
