Haryana to hike HRA on Central pattern

The Haryana Cabinet today approved House Rent Allowance to state government employees on the pattern of the Central government.

The Haryana Cabinet today approved House Rent Allowance (HRA) to state government employees on the pattern of the Central government.

The Cabinet also approved the Haryana Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Rules,2009. It has decided not to increase lump sum rates for brick-kiln owners,and has reduced VAT on hardwares of iron and steel.

The Haryana government had earlier adopted the Maintenance of Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act,2007,enacted by the Central government. The Act provides for constitution of a maintenance tribunal and appointment of Conciliation Officers. It also provides for

implementation of a scheme for management of old age homes,protection of life and property of senior citizens,setting up of state council and district committees of senior citizens.

The maximum maintenance allowance which a Tribunal may order the opposite party to pay shall subject to a maximum of Rs 10,000 per month. It will be fixed in such a manner that it does not exceed the monthly income from all sources of the opposite party,divided by the number of persons in his family counting the applicant or applicants also among the opposite party’s family members.

The HRA will be given to the employees with effect from January 1,2009. Employees posted in cities with more than 50 lakh population would be entitled to HRA at the rate of 30 per cent of their pay in the pay band,which will be gradepay+MSP+NPA.

Employees posted in cities where the population is between 5 lakh and 50 lakh will be entitled to HRA at the rate of 20 per cent.

The employees living in cities with less than 5 lakh population would be entitled for house rent allowance at the rate of 10 per cent.
