In a decision that is likely to give some respite to the elected body of the city unit of Youth Congress, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday quashed the case against Maninder Dhillon who received the highest votes in the elections. The election of the Youth Congress was declared null and void after a complaint was moved to FAME,which had conducted the election, that there was a case pending against Dhillon in court.

While the elections were held, the results were withheld. FAME later declared the election null and void. It was expected that in the next few days an announcement for re-election would be made. Dhillon stated that he would now send a copy of the High Court’s order to the senior leaders of Youth Congress and FAME.

“We hope that after seeing the orders the committee will be allowed to function. I will go to Delhi to meet senior leaders and take up the issue with them,” he said.

After the elections were canceled Youth Congress members had met the senior leaders at Delhi and given representations. With the case in court, the decision was not going in favour of the elected members. They are now hopeful that the elected members would be allowed to take over.
