The 51-year-old sewadar has visited gurdwaras across the country on his bicycle
He has visited gurdwaras across the country on his bicycle. But for 51-year-old sewadar at Nada Sahib,Rajinder Singh, this is just the beginning. Singh started his mission in 1993,and claims to have travelled over 70,000 kilometres on his bicycle.
He undertakes these journeys twice a year and has visited gurdwaras including the Golden Temple,Patna Sahib,Hemkunt Sahib and Hazoor Sahib.
Recently back from his 20-day journey to Patna Sahib. It was my third visit there but it felt just like first time. I travel alone,it gives me more time to chant His name, says Singh. He has already visited the Goldent Temple 15 times.
These pilgrimages have become an annual feature for him now. I am on a mission to spread Guru ki Bani and what better way than to do it by denouncing the comforts of life. Normally,I cover around 200 kms in a day. My devotion keeps me going, he says. A single trip costs him Rs 2,000.
While he wants to travel across the length and breadth of the country, lack of support from Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has dampned his spirit a little.
The committee can extend some financial help but they have just sanctioned my leave and not shown anu interest in my cause, he rues.
