Him and Her

He’s painted animal forms,captured scenes from everyday life on his canvases and chiselled out sculptures from images that formed in his mind. Shiv Singh’s latest body,as the name of his exhibition indicates,is a “Discovery in Erotica Art”. The collection is being showcased at Alliance Française till the end of this month. In watercolours and a combination of textile and dye colours,he has focussed on the Yoni and Lingam,and the process of creation. Indian society often worships interpretations of the Yoni the ultimate,divine receptacle,and Lingam,the symbol of dominance,yet it is seldom ever discussed publicly. “Physical attraction is a part of life,in animals as well as humans,” says the award-winning artist,who is also President of Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi. There are 20 paintings and 11 sculptures in bronze,iron,metal sheet and wood.

Singh is also working on the theme of how a point (the dot or bindu) leads to everything else.
