Home-based treatment for disabled

Two weeks after Regional Institute of Mentally Handicapped released a data of the total number of disabled people in the city, its officials have chalked out a plan to provide home-based treatment to above 3,000 specially-abled.

The report, “Identification of persons with disability in Chandigarh”, was released by UT Adviser Vijay Dev on August 7. According to the report, the disability prevalence in the city is 0.92 per cent. B S Chavan, Joint Director, RIMH, said, “We have designed a 10-hour home based treatment package for over 3,000 specially-abled people. Ten hours are divided into seven sessions.”

A team will visit the house of the disabled person and spend the first two hours in assessing the type and degree of the disability. During the second session, an hour will be spend to arrange disability certificates. Another hour will be spent in educating the family about the causes of the disability. In the rest of the hours clinical services will be provided.
