The Tricity witnessed protests in support of Baba Ramdevs call for satyagraha against corruption. While people sat on dharna at various places,some associations sent letters of support to Ramdev.
The Bridge Market in Chandigarhs Sector 17 was abuzz with activity with a large number of people from different walks of life gathering at the shamiana set up by Pitanjali Yog Peeth. Here,eight persons have begun an indefinite hungerstrike in support of Ramdev.
The banners of India Against Corruption,Punjab and Haryana Bar Association,Seva Bharti,RSS and other organizations were also visible with BJP and RSS leaders present in full force.
Among the BJP leaders who visited the dharna site were Harmohan Dhawan,Chandigarh unit general secretary Arun Sood,Ramvir Bhatti and Satinder Singh.
Our national president has asked us to participate in the protests. We have not come in capacity of members of BJP,but as individuals who want to fight corruption. Our workers are participating in protests at various places, said Sood. He added that as Anna Hazare did not allow political parties to be a part of his protest,they had not joined his hungerstrike. However,since Ramdev has put no such restrictions,they were joining the protests.
Dharnas were also held at the Sector 18-7 roundabout and Sector 30.
Mohali
A handful of activists of Pitanjali Yog Peeth begun a fast in support of their mentors protest in various parts of Mohali. No senior leader from any political party,however,participated in the dharna. Though we have come to know from the media that our party has extended support to Ramdevs stir on the national level,since we have not received any instructions from our state unit,we are not doing anything as of now to support Ramdev, Mohali district BJP president Sukhwinder Singh Goldy said.
About 500 people joined Ramdevs satyagraha against corruption in Panchkula,organised by Chandigarh Patanjali Yogpeeth. While 33 people started a hungerstrike,22 organisations including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and resident welfare associations lent their support to the protest.
People were seen sitting at Sector 11-15 roundabout with a big LCD showing Ramdevs fast from New Delhi live. The issue of bringing back black money stashed in foreign banks was the rallying point in Panchkula.
According to sources,around 100 people had gone to New Delhi to take part in Ramdevs rally. BJP leaders Gian Chand Gupta and C B Goyal were also present on the occasion.
