Sharma is new V-C Agri University Palampur
The government on Friday appointed Dr Shyam Kumar Sharma,Director of National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources,PUSA campus,New Delhi,as the Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Sravan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya,Palampur. He would replace present Dr Tej Pratap whose tenure was marked by several reforms on campus. One of them was introduction of exemplary punishments for students involved in ragging. Sharma has been appointed for a period of three years or till he attains the age of 65 years,which ever is earlier. He is likely to join the office on July 5,Monday.
Shimla film festival
Screening of the film Weeping Apple Tree,directed by filmmaker Vijay S Judah,which tracked the story of shift in apple cultivation in Kullu valley due to climate change,set the tone for the environment film festival that began at Gaiety Theatre in Shimla on Friday.
The film festival of Center for Media Studies,CMS Vatavaran,was inaugurated by Public Works Department and Revenue Minister Gulab Singh Thakur. Forty two award winning films would be screened in the next two days,said Founder and Chairman of CMS N Bhaskar Rao.
Man found dead
The police have registered a murder case against unknown person after body of a conductor of Himachal Road Transport Corporation was found lying in a pool of blood near tunnel number 103 on Friday. Police said the injury marks on his head indicated he was probably attacked. The incident took place on Thursday night. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
