4 held with heroin worth Rs 4 crore
The district police (rural) arrested four persons and recovered 4 kilograms of heroin,worth Rs 4 crore,on Friday. Those arrested have been identified as Paramjit Singh,Gurmeet Singh,Sukhdev Singh and Banta Singh,said SSP (Rural) Sukhdev Singh Brar. Brar said,on receiving a tip-off,a trap was laid and the accused from a rest house at Amb Nangal village. The preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had links with smugglers in Pakistan,said Brar.
Drive against dowry,expensive weddings
Lok Bhalai Party (LBP) president Balwant Singh Ramoowalia has launched a drive against dowry and expensive weddings. The party plans to get 10,000 men to sign undertakings saying they would not take more then 11 persons in their baraats,not have food at the brides place,would not distribute sweets or dry fruits with invitation cards,and would not use liquor during marriage functions. They also have to pledge that they would not take dowry. Ramoowalia presented 33 boys who had taken the pledge before the media here on Friday.
Disaster management should be in curriculum
A team of experts led by Surjit Sharma,Deputy Chief Warden,Civil Defence,met students at Spring Dale Senior School here on Friday and apprised them about various kinds of disasters,both natural and man-made,and the ways these can be managed. They stressed the need to incorporate disaster management as a subject in school curriculum,forming committees comprising teachers and students at school level.
