The Facebook war among the contenders for the Lok Sabha seat from different political parties in the city seems to have become more fierce. The likes on the Facebook page of senior BJP leader Satya Pal Jain crossed the 51,000 mark,while local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal followed a close second at more than 50,000 likes on Thursday.
Social networking sites have become another battle ground for political parties. The meetings held by these leaders as well as the activities that they are involved in are uploaded to reach out to a wider audience. Even heated exchanges and debates take place online. Peoples queries are also answered.
While Jain has 51,336 likes on his Facebook page,Bansals page has 50825 followers. Another senior BJP leader Harmohan Dhawan has 38023 likes,while that of president of city unit of BJP Sanjay Tandon has 15,196 likes. BSP leader Jannat Jahan has 5446 people liking her Facebook page.
Jain is also the front runner on Twitter with 1,241 followers. Meanwhile,Bansal has 116 followers,Dhawan has 22 and Tandon 141 followers.
On Thursday Jain posted a message of thanks on his Facebook page,saying that the comments,observations and even criticism posted by his followers have been useful to him in getting enlightened on various issues and hoped that he will continue getting the love and affection of his followers in future too.
Congress had recently held a workshop for training youngsters to use social media for campaigning. One of the issues highlighted was the abusive language being used on the social network. It was opined that there was a need for giving befitting replies to accusations without using degrading language.
