The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has taken a major step in automation of metering and billing (AMR) of 3,200 high tension industrial consumers in the command area of the Nigam.

The area comprises the following districts: Panchkula,Ambala,Yamuna Nagar,Kurukshetra,Kaithal,Karnal,Panipat,Sonepat,Rohtak,Jhajjar and Jind.

A spokesman said here today that the implementation of the AMR contract has been awarded to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the work is to be completed in six months. Under this ambitious project,GPRS modems will be installed in each high-tension industrial consumer’s premises. The data of the meter will be transferred to the server installed in the head office at Panchkula through these modems. With the implementation of the project, the meter reading shall be transferred online to the headquarters.

The spokesman said that due to automatic meter reading, billing and regular data analysis there will need no human intervention. Also,it will be possible to keep a close watch on electricity consumption, which will help the Nigam to prevent losses due to pilferage of power. It would also ensure accurate billing and saving of manpower.
