A new dating portal connects people on the basis of their shared interests
When 36-year-old Shweta Sharma logged into a dating site seven years ago,she was admittedly skeptical. I didnt think Id meet anyone interesting. I remember turning up my nose when I filled in details about my eye colour,my height, weight, and of course,my religion, caste and community, she looks back. She considers herself lucky that she could find herself a life partner through the site.
Even though most matrimonial and dating sites dwell on a persons physical attributes even today,Sharma emphasises that she belongs to a growing ilk of people who want to look beyond these parameters. Fuelled by this fact and the desire to nurse her entrepreneurial streak,Sharma quit her job in the advertising industry to start the dating site Ditto.co.in,which focuses on shared interests above everything else.
Has there been an incident where you met someone for the first time and talked for hours just because you shared a common interest say a favourite book, movie or a band? You may not have known the persons age or religion, yet youre hooked and want to know more.
My aim is to facilitate such an experience through Ditto, she explains.
Anchor and actor Neha Sareen, who seconds Sharmas philosophy, has joined in as a partner. Ditto is the thinking persons relationship site where there is no room for fake profiles with Bollywood star pictures and unverified details, she says.
The website allows users the option of finding an overall match that matches maximum categories possible or a niche match that pairs you with someone who,for instance, only shares with you a passion for reading PG Wodehouse.
The privacy and the flexibility that Ditto offers have made it hugely popular. We started five months ago and already have 500 members, who joined mainly due to word-of-mouth. That tells us that we are on the right track, says Sharma.
