Jeweller held for buying stolen gold necklace

The Panchkula Police have arrested a jeweller for buying stolen jewellery from a thief.

According to police,late on Friday night,they arrested Anurag Bholla,a jeweller at Manimajra,for buying stolen items from a thief. Police said that they have also recovered the stolen gold necklace which was bought by him. The gold chain cost Rs 1.4 lakh but was bought by the jeweler at a cost of only Rs 40,000.

According to police,the jeweler was arrested on information provided to the police by a thief who has been already arrested for thefts in the city. The raids were carried out at the house of the jeweler by the staff of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and the necklace was recovered which was later handed over to the person from whose house it was stolen,in Sector 12. The jeweler has been now remanded to judicial custody.

According to police,the jeweler was arrested on information provided to them by a thief,Shankar Dass. Last week police had busted a gang of inter-state robbers with the arrest of two persons.

Besides Shankar Dass,police also arrested another thief,Lal Singh. The main accused,Shankar,is also wanted in many theft cases in the neighbouring state of Himachal Pradesh. From their possession,a loaded country-made pistol and knife were also recovered from the possession of the accused. The two thieves,Shankar and Lal Singh were arrested during night patrolling on April 6 in Industrial Area,Sector 19,Panchkula,where the police got the information that two young boys were preparing for a dacoity. CIA officials said that Shankar is also involved in many thefts in Panchkula and Zirakpur.
