A Special Task Force constable from Haryana Police was discovered dead in his car in Jhajjar district on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Constable Satbir, served in Jhajjar STF. Satbir retired from the Army and joined Haryana Police as a constable a few years ago, leaving behind a wife, a son, and a daughter.
Based on a complaint from Satbir’s father-in-law, the police registered a murder case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. However, investigating officials mentioned that prima facie it appears to be a suicide rather than a murder.
Superintendent of Police (Jhajjar) Arpit Jain stated to The Indian Express, “Although the deceased’s family members alleged that he [Satbir] was shot dead, preliminary investigations have indicated that it might be a case of suicide. We have registered a case on charges of murder and are investigating all possible angles. The investigation is ongoing.”
Inspector Prakash Chand, Station House Officer of the Sahlawas police station where the incident occurred, explained, “Information was received about Constable Satbir found dead in his car near a canal in Bhurawas village. Police teams reached there and initiated investigations. Forensic teams inspected the spot and collected evidence. At least two or three bullets had pierced his car’s glass. Whether it was a suicide or a murder is a matter of investigation. The body was kept at the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Satbir’s father-in-law lodged a complaint and raised apprehension that Satbir was murdered; thus, a case of murder has been registered. Investigation is ongoing.”
“We are also taking the help of our IT teams to ascertain if he [Satbir] made or received any phone calls or if there was other technical evidence available to ascertain the truth behind his death. But details cannot be shared at this stage,” added Inspector Prakash Chand.
While Jhajjar Police and the STF are investigating the daylight murder of INLD’s state chief Nafe Singh Rathee and party worker Jai Kishan, it remains uncertain if Satbir’s death is related to Rathee’s murder investigation or if the two incidents have no connection at all.
