Over 100 juveniles held for murder & attempt to murder cases since 2020

According to data, apart from the incidents of murder, juveniles have also been found involved in heinous incidents of rape and molestation.

More than 100 juveniles, mostly aged between 12 and 18 years, have been apprehended in connection with murder and attempt to murder cases in Chandigarh since 2020 to date, disclosed data compiled by the Chandigarh Police on juveniles’ involvement in crime incidents in the city from 2020 to April 2025.

Apart from heinous crimes, juveniles have been found involved mostly in theft, burglary and snatching incidents in the city, it said, adding a total of 587 juveniles were apprehended till April.

From 2020 till May 15, 2025, police apprehended 105 juveniles, including 41 for murder and 64 for attempt to murder cases in Chandigarh.

A police officer said the data would be used to counsel juveniles to keep them away from criminal activities.

According to data, apart from the incidents of murder, juveniles have also been found involved in heinous incidents of rape and molestation. As many as 38 juveniles were apprehended for rape and nine for molestation from 2020 to April 2025.

Data further mentions that in incidents of theft and burglary, 136 juveniles were apprehended from 2020 till April 2025, while for snatching incidents, 64.

According to the Chandigarh Police, among 587 juveniles apprehended since 2020, seven were found to be below 12 years of age; 281 were aged between 12 and 16 years; and 299 were aged between 16 and 18 years.

In 2020, 83 juveniles were apprehended; 103 in 2021; 125 in 2022; 156 in 2023; 86 in 2024, and 45 till May 15, 2025.
