‘Know your case’ scheme a hit among residents

The ‘Know your case’ scheme by the Chandigarh Police - launched to give the complainants the right to know the status of the investigation - is getting a positive response from the residents across the city

The ‘Know your case’ scheme by the Chandigarh Police – launched to give the complainants the right to know the status of the investigation – is getting a positive response from the residents across the city.

The main idea behind the scheme,launched in all the police stations,was to bring greater transparency and accountability in police functioning,wherein,the complainant could directly meet the investigation officers or the DSP,to discuss the problems.

short article insert One of the complainants,Sanjan kumar,who registered himself at the Sector 26 police station on Saturday to inquire about his stolen motorcycle,said,“It is the first time that the police have started this kind of scheme where we can directly meet with the officers regarding our cases,otherwise,there is no other alternative through which we can inquire about our case or petition.”

While another complainant,Chandigarh-based doctor Sandeep Bansal said,“I was not aware of the scheme but fortunately got to know that Chandigarh Police has taken such an initiative to help the complainants. I came here to inquire about my case,unaware of the fact that the investigation officers will help me to find a solution to my case. They said that they will look into the investigation themselves. I have been coming to the police station for the past many days,but now I am sure my case will be solved soon.”

In order to help the complainants in a better way,Chandigarh Police has decided to organise camps on ‘Know your case’ every second Saturday,from 10 am to 2 pm. On Saturday,it was the third camp organised at different divisional police stations. The first camp was held on June 15 at the Sector 26 police station. On Saturday,18 people registered themselves at Sector 26 police station.

Head Constable,North region,Suresh Kumar said,“It is the third camp organised,and the number of complainants are increasing. Our beat inspectors go to various places to make people aware of the scheme. We are asking the complainants to fill a feedback performa and we are getting a positive response.”

Another complaiant,Parveen Jain said,“The scheme is very helpful. We can meet the SHOs and the investigation officers directly and we are at complete liberty to discuss the case or petition with the same and they confirm the status of our case in not more than 10 minutes.”

According to the Chandigarh Police,the scheme will help in disposing off the cases and the complaints faster.
