The Himachal Haat project coming up in the private sector on the Shimla-Kalka National Highway will be finally thrown open to tourists by Union Minister of State for Tourism Kumari Selja on May 31.
Tourism Director Dr Arun Sharma said the Himachal Haat, first of its kind in Himachal, had come up without any government investment. This is an innovative project and will showcase Himachals culture and handicraft, he said.
Set up by The Destination Resort, the luxury tourism project has over two dozen mud huts offering Himachali cuisines cooked and served in traditional style and craftsmen and artists making rural handicraft items.
Resorts managing director Manju Seth said: I wanted to open the Himachal Haat early this month but it was delayed because of certain reasons. Once the minister launches the project,it will be an added tourists activity on the national highway.
The project, she claimed, had blend of Kalagram in Chandigarh and Surajkund Mela. I picked up ideas from different places and am trying to package everything to implement in this venture,of course a bit differently, said Manju.
