Lack of development the major poll issue for Faridkot residents

Once a high-profile constituency,Faridkot now cries out for development. With no leader from its soil,it had to look outside for a representative.

Once a high-profile constituency,Faridkot now cries out for development. With no leader from its soil,it had to look outside for a representative.

Chaman Lal,a local trader says,”We have always been unlucky. If our MLA is from the Congress, the government is of Akalis and vice-versa. Our only hope,MP Sukhbir Singh Badal has done little for us. Giani Zail Singh was the only leader who worked for us.”

Talking about the Congress versus Akalis,Gurmail Singh Gill,a resident of Kalike village says,” The Congress has given a good fight to the Akalis in Bathinda. Capt Amarinder SIngh and Raninder are holding their ground against the entire Badal clan. The Congress will gather support in other constituencies as well.”

But Bhagat Singh thinks otherwise. “Everyone has his or her opinion but the Akalis have done a lot for the welfare of the people. The policies initiated by Parkash Singh Badal have helped the poor to get at least two square meals a day,” he says. Gurcharan Singh, another Akali supporter says,”The Congress gave a clean chit to those accused for the 1984 riots. The Sikhs cannot forget that.”

There are also people like Karamjeet Sharma who do not support anyone. “Neither Congress candidate Danny nor Gulshan of the Akalis belong to Faridkot. Whoever wins will return to their hometowns. The loss,in both cases,is ours,” he said.
