Lokpal IG transfer a planned move: Capt

Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal,who heads the Home Department also,have completely subverted and undermined the institution of Lokpal by transferring the Inspector General of Police,Sham Lal Ghakar who as IG Lokpal was heading two inquiries against them.

State Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal,who heads the Home Department also,have completely subverted and undermined the institution of Lokpal by transferring the Inspector General of Police,Sham Lal Ghakar who as IG Lokpal was heading two inquiries against them.

In a statement issued here,Amarinder alleged that since the Badals were busy in getting the entire record in the transport department about their buses changed,they wanted to bide time and transferred Ghakar.

This,Amarinder said,reflected this governments lack of commitment towards an independent and strong Lokpal.

The former chief minister alleged that the district transport officers were being pressurised to make changes in the records of the transport department. Even if they manage to alter the records,the Congress government will get the matter comprehensively probed to ensure they do not go scot free,Amarinder said.

The former CM asserted that Ghakars was not a routine transfer but had been planned so that the government could install someone else in his place. The new incumbent will take his own time in settling down to inquire the charges against Badals and thus the matter will unnecessarily get delayed further. That is what the Badals want,he said.

Capt Amarinder said it was ironical that Badal had been singing paeans to Anna Hazare,and had said that he would be welcome to Punjab. Is this the welcome you are going to accord him – a weakened and an undermined Lokpal subverted for your own purpose? Amarinder questioned.
