Lounge at ease

Himani’s all-new Vertigo offers budget-friendly fun

Long before lounges and cafes became popular, the city’s young and restless brigade had a fun place to let their hair down. With its funky bean bags and a pocket-friendly menu,Blue Moon, tucked away in Hotel Himani’s basement in Sector 35 was always packed with young visitors. “Precisely why we haven’t made changes to the place,” says owner Ankit Gupta. While Blue Moon stays,it has made some room for Vertigo,a bar and lounge also housed in the hotel’s basement. Once you get past the tunnel-like entrance,a cheerful surprise awaits one at the end of the stairs.

Boasting 125 covers,Vertigo is an open lounge with the bar stationed as an island in the middle. “We didn’t want to cramp up space and intentionally gave it an open feel,” explains Gupta,as we notice the low-level couches and lots of cushions add to the cosy touch. To brighten up the lounge, the walls are not too dark and offer a retro club feel. To attract youngsters who want a fun place to unwind,Vertigo has a pool table stationed right next to the well-stocked bar. The bar menu brings in leading international liquor brands to popular cocktails like Long Island Iced Tea (Rs 195),Cosmopolitan (Rs 180) and a bevy of beer brands like Corona and Heineken (Rs 185). “There are many fine dining restaurants and clubs in the city but most are not youth centric and budget-friendly,” says Gupta. “The music will range from pop to jazz to trance and R&B over the weekends,” he adds.

The menu offers quick-bites but the portion sizes are rather generous. Offering a mix of Indian snacks as well as Continental favourites, the menu brings in Arabiatta pasta (Rs 170),Royal Tandoori Chicken Sandwich (Rs 170) to popular kebabs such as Kebab Afghani (Rs 168) and Chicken Seekh Kebab (Rs 148). However,if you are looking for more substantial meals then choose from Tandoori Chicken (Rs 288) or Mutton Chilly (Rs 288). “Since it’s a bar and lounge,we have worked out a stag menu also,” says Gupta. Those going solo can dig into Chilly Chicken (Rs 78) or a Seekh Kebab serving (Rs 48).
