The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday ordered status quo on the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon project after a petition alleged that land acquired by the Haryana government for maintaining a green belt had been released to developer DLF.
On a petition filed jointly by residents of the area including one Sunil Mehta,Justice Alok Singh ordered status quo on the possession and construction of the project in the area located adjacent to Cyber City near NH-8.
Notices have been issued to Municipal Corporation,Gurgaon,Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA),Gurgaon and Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon.
Senior advocate Chetan Mittal,assisted by advocate Puneet Gupta on behalf of the petitioners,contended that the Haryana government acquired the green belt area of the society of the petitioners in the name of maintaining the green belt. The society,National Media Centre,comprises journalists and academicians.
Mittal alleged that the Haryana government transferred the area in favour of the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon project in an illegal,arbitrary and malafide manner. The RMRG system was to be be Indias first privately owned and operated metro.
