In a ghastly crime,an uncle allegedly raped his minor niece. This came to light on Friday night when the 12-year-old girl,a resident of a colony near Sector 56,complained of a severe stomach ache.
She was rushed to Civil Hospital,Mohali,at around 10 pm and the doctors detected that she was four months pregnant. The Mohali police were contacted. However,after reaching the hospital,they said that the case falls in the jurisdiction of Chandigarh Police.
Chandigarh Police then recorded the statement of the mother of the 12-year-old. The mother,a domestic servant,alleged that the girlss uncle used to visit their house after she and her husband,a gardener,used to leave for work.
The mother has told the police that her daughter,a class VIII student,has disclosed that the uncle Rahul had repeatedly raped her over the past few months.
After operating on the 12-year-old,the doctors recovered a four-month-old foetus.
The police have recovered the foetus and registered a case of rape against Rahul under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Rahul,resident of Balongi,village has been arrested. The family members had earlier disclosed that Rahul had gone to his native village in Uttar Pradesh.
We have recorded the statement and will register a case of rape against the uncle, said a police official. After registration of the case,he was arrested.
There has been an alarming rise in sexual crimes against minors in the country,say observers.
