Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar fulfills a promise made during college days; casts MLA Krishna Hegde in his next Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji

Most of us forget over time the pacts we make with our friends in the fervour of our youth. But National Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar doesn’t belong to this category. In a bid to fulfill his pact made with college friend MLA Krishna Hegde,he has cast the politician in a minor role where he plays himself in the forthcoming film Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji.

The pact dates back to the 1980s,says Bhandarkar, when Hegde was a student leader while he himself was nursing aspirations to become a filmmaker. “We decided that if the day comes when he becomes an MLA and I,a successful director,I will cast him in my film,” recounts the director who has made films like Fashion and Page 3. “It’s about time I fulfill the promise.”

The director offered Hegde a role last month when the two were vacationing together in Bali. Though the role is small, the politician graciously agreed to play the part. The film also stars Ajay Devgn,Emraan Hashmi and Omi Vaidya, and is likely to release next year.
