A lower Court of Chandigarh today sentenced a 30-year-old man to seven years imprisonment for raping a six-year-old girl. The Court also slapped a penalty of Rs 50,000 on the guilty,Mohammad Rashid. Of the total penalty,Rs 40,000 will be given to the victim,the Court ordered.
On May 14,2010,the Chandigarh Police had booked Mohammad Rashid,hailing from Uttar Pradesh,living in Dadu Majra. He had allegedly raped the six-year-old near a garbage dumping ground in Dadu Majra on May 13,2010.
Rashid had shifted to Chandigarh a week before the incident from his native place and was in search of job while staying with his friends. The victim was abducted on May 13 from a park in Daddu Majra Colony. The victim,a resident of Milk Colony,Dhanas,had gone to Dadu Majra to meet her grandmother.
According to the prosecution,the guilty had lured the victim by offering candies. She was taken to a forest area near the dumping ground.
On having received information about the girl going missing from her mother,the Chandigarh Police had deputed various teams in search of the girl.
Rashid was nabbed when he was coming out from a deserted area. The six-year-old was later recovered from the forest area.
