Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh Pali today recorded his statement pertaining to the election petition against his election as Mayor. The petition was filed by councillor J S Kang challenging Palis election with the UT Deputy Commissioner. The recording of his statement went on for around five hours today.
Councillor Pradeep Chhabra was dropped from the list of witnesses. Pali said that Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal played a role in his selection as the Congress candidate but denied that Bansal had a major role in his selection. He also said that Bansal neither telephoned any person for voting in his favour nor accompanied him to any house.

On being shown the official video recording of the proceedings of the Mayors election,Pali admitted that the Presiding Officer Brig Chandpuri had directed that no member should take his mobile with him while going to cast his vote. He also admitted that after hearing all the members who wanted to say something on this issue,the Presiding Officer had asked all the members of the house to keep all mobiles,cameras there and not take photographs and also to keep all their mobiles in a small folder while going to cast their vote. Pali also stated that after the said ruling by Chandpuri,Bansal got up and said,It is our wish. We may do in any manner we like. I will take with me. I will not keep it. It is my will I may click or I may not click. However,he later added that Bansal had also said that there were no rules which categorically tell us that we can take mobiles or not. Pali denied that taking of mobile is prohibited even while casting vote for the election of the councilor to the Municipal Corporation. Pali admitted that Bansal was present in the meeting held at Hotel President on January 1,2011 in the evening after the election. He stated that B B Bahl,President,Chandigarh Congress Committee and almost all Congress councillors were present in this meeting. He denied that the mobiles of all the Congress councillors were checked.
