While the IPL matches,at Mohalis PCA stadium, may have gladdened the regions cricket enthusiasts, they have been a bane for residents of Phase IX and X in Mohali. With security being beefed up every time the IPL bandwagon rolls into town, the resulting changes have caused a huge amount of problems to the residents.
The barricading of roads, leading up to the venue, has led to heavy traffic jams near the stadium. Barricading at the Phase 9 traffic lights forces daily commuters to take a detour through a market, which has very narrow streets.
Another problem faced by residents of Phase IX and X is the pass system started by the police.
Passes are distributed to residents of these Phases and they are expected to be shown when one enters the areas around the stadium.
The problem with the system, however,is that every house is issued only one pass.
With more than one person driving in most households, residents face a torrid time. Visitors also face a lot of problems as they have to be escorted by someone with a pass.
Residents also complain that spectators park their cars in the residential areas.
Policemen are also posted on the roofs of the residences causing inconvenience to the owners as they have to stay awake to lock their houses after the policemen leave. On days when there is an evening match, this happens at 12 in the night.
