Mohali to crack whip against speeding

Rising from slumber,the Mohali administration has finally planned to crack the whip against speeding vehicles. In the first phase,Rs 6.5 crore will be spent on fixing 200 speed-limit signboards,zebra crossings,divider markings,guide posts,solar studs and direction boards across the city within a fortnight.

Launching the drive here this evening,MC Additional Commissioner (AC) Parveen Kumar Thind,who is also Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) Additional Chief Administration (ACA),fixed the first sign board depicting speed limits for plying of various type of vehicles on one of the main roads connecting Mohali with Chandigarh near Madanpur Chowk.

Thind said: “This is the first time that speed limits have been fixed in Mohali. Signboards will be affixed at strategic locations for the benefit of the motorists and to inform them to drive within the permitted speed limits.”

The Superintendent of Police (Mohali),Harpreet Singh,said that once the signboards and other signage are put in place,the police will start ticketing any offenders.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) D S Mann said that a traffic rules awareness drive will be launched for the benefit of the public and that school students will help to spread this message.
