Nari Niketan rape case: Two witnesses record statements

Two witnesses,a doctor and a UT police employee,today recorded their statements in the ongoing Nari Niketan rape trial.

Two witnesses,a doctor and a UT police employee,today recorded their statements in the ongoing Nari Niketan rape trial. The two fully supported the prosecution case. Sub-Inspector Kulbir Kaur and Dr Rajnish recorded their statements before the court.

It might be remembered that the prosecution in the case had identified all the accused — Bhupinder Singh,Jamuna Parsad,Kamla,Vijender and Maya of Nari Niketan and Naresh,Bhagwandeep,Davinder and Chotu of Ashreya. The mentally retarded rape victim was raped during her stay in Nari Niketan,Sector 26,Chandigarh. Later,she was shifted to Sector-47 Ashreya,a home for mentally disturbed persons. She was found pregnant on May 16 last year by Ashreya authorities. The UT administration had moved HC for termination of her pregnancy on medical grounds. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered termination of pregnancy of the victim which was later set aside by the apex court. The victim had given birth to a girl child last year.

Three get 5 years in jail

A local court on Tuesday awarded five-year imprisonment to three persons who were planning to commit robbery. A local Court also slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 on the three accused. The incident took place in 2009. Those convicted are Roshan Ali,Mann Singh and Sanjiv. The Chandigarh police had arrested the accused along with three juveniles from Sector 50 when they were planning to commit robbery. On Saturday court had convicted the accused.
