NCC cadets on naval expedition

A contingent of 66 personnel comprising 35 boys and 15 girls cadets and 16 staff members from Chandigarh Naval Unit of NCC are participating in the 12-day long expedition.

The team would cover over 429 km and visit places like Lathiani,Bangana,Marhau,Kohdra,Porohian,Bhakhra,Galu,Kosharian,Kanphara,Nakrana and back to Raipur. The performance of the expedition would be assessed at the national level to select the Most Enterprising Naval Unit (MENU) among 17 NCC directorates and the best team would be felicitated during the 2011 Republic Day Parade.

Addressing the cadets,Maj Gen Virk: “The current water levels are very conducive to sailing. The cadets would be exposed to various kinds of activities during the expedition,which includes sailing,boat pulling,ship modelling,shooting,parade training and drill,kayaking,windsurfing et al.” The cadets would sail on three DK Whaler boats and two cadet class sailing boats. “We would also take three kayaks and one wind surfer for the training session,” said Captain G M Singh,Commanding Officer,1 Chandigarh Naval Unit,NCC.

Keeping in view the importance of community involvement and to create awareness among the general public on various issues related to the society and environment,the expedition team would also organise social service activities and rallies in and around Raipur in district Una.
