Nirmal Yadav hearing adjourned to May 18

To await the outcome of the appeal filed by Justice Nirmal Yadav,a special CBI Court,Chandigarh,on Saturday adjourned the hearing of the trial to May 18.

To await the outcome of the appeal filed by Justice (retd) Nirmal Yadav,a special CBI Court,Chandigarh,on Saturday adjourned the hearing of the trial to May 18.

The appeal was filed demanding photocopies of the records of the Union Ministry of Law and Justice pertaining to her prosecution sanction.

The infamous ‘judge bribery’ trial,in which Yadav stands charge sheeted by the CBI,came up for resumed hearing on Saturday. After the CBI Court,on February 2,had dismissed Yadav’s demand of photocopies of the record,Yadav had approached the High Court in appeal.

Yadav’s counsel had averred that if the record was lying with the court there was no harm in giving it to the petitioner. The case is yet to be decided by the High Court.

On the last date of the hearing in the High Court,Anupam Gupta,CBI special public prosecutor had strongly deprecated the adjournment sought by Yadav’s counsel.

Terming the adjournment sought as “most unfair”,Gupta had minced no words in stating that if “there is any defence strategy it should be transparent”.
