May create chaos as several faculty members are in race for directors post
As many professors of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER),Chandigarh, are in the race to be the next director, eyebrows are being raised by the faculty members as PGI has not issued the final seniority list of its professors. Sources said that PGI had issued a provisional seniority list in 2007 and sought objections,if any, about it so that it could compile the final seniority list of the professors.
It is not only in 2007 but also in 2002 and 2006 that the authorities issued provisional seniority lists of professors at PGI and sought objections from faculty members. But it never ensured that the final list was formed, effectively shutting all debate about the seniority. In fact, some professors are even seeking court intervention for seniority status, he said.
A PGI spokesperson said that the Institute would soon issue the final seniority list of professors. PGI is in the process of finalising the seniority list of professors, the spokesperson said.
More than 10 of PGIs top professors are in the race for the post of director as incumbent Professor K K Talwar will retire on May 1,2011,after serving for seven years. The PGI faculty association has demanded that the next director should be from within the institute.
Recently, the members submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister when he chaired the Institute Body meeting on Monday.
