Acclaimed Bollywood actor Anupam Kher is ready to set up an acting school in Shimla from where he started his acting career.
I will love to repay Shimla, which has so much acting talent. If I can run acting academies at Chandigarh and Mumbai, and one coming up in New York, why cant I do the same for Shimla, the actor said on the sidelines of a function organised to felicitate police officials.
On his part,Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal directed director of language, art and culture Prem Sharma to finalise the modalities for setting up the acting school.
Later,Kher also announced to stage a play on on his own life and struggles,Kuch Bhi Ho Sakhta Hai (Anything is possible),at the historic Gaiety Theatre in December 2011.
Earlier,Dhumal said the state government has spent Rs 17 crore to give a facelift to the the Gaiety Theatre, the place where Kher had started his acting career in the early seventies. Reminiscing about the past,Kher said that it was his sheer determination to chase a dream of being an actor, which finally came true.
There is nothing wrong in chasing the dreams and taking a plunge. I did that. I remember returning with empty hands after my first play at Gaiety Theatre. I did not even get the consolation prize. But that could not dampen my spirit. I left Shimla on July 27,1974 (to chase my dreams) and today I am standing in front of you,Kher, who has made a mark as a character actor, said.
Kher, who was with his parents, said,As a child I used to walk with my father between Nabha Estate to Mall road and would see people wishing him. I used to wonder if I would ever be a prominent figure like him. Now when people meet me and tell me that they have met my father,I feel really overwhelmed.
