An answer books scam,in connivance with students and professors,has come to light in the engineering colleges under Punjab Technical University.

An answer books scam,in connivance with students and professors,has come to light in the engineering colleges under Punjab Technical University (PTU). After an enquiry by PTU,seven faculty members including six professors and one clerk of two colleges have been debarred from the examination and other university related activities in future by PTU. The university also asked the respective institutes to take strict punitive action against such staff members.

Also,the result of 31 students including 29 from BCET,Bhutta Ludhiana and two students to SSIET,Derabassi,stands cancelled for all the subjects — theory as well as practical — for two semesters and also these students have been disqualified from appearing in any examination of the university for a period of two semesters.

It is learnt that large scale irregularities have been taking place in evaluation of answer books of students by the faculty members of engineer colleges.

The PTU Registrar has issued such orders against the faculty members after an enquiry by a three-member committee on February 7 through notification No. PTU/Reg/179 while another order related to students was also issued on the same date through notification No. PTU/Reg/ 180.

As one of the enquiry committee members revealed to The Indian Express that most of these students have left their answer books blank while mentioning their contact numbers,including Mobile phone numbers etc,on the answer books,requesting to be contacted by the professors,who will evaluate their answer books.

“All these students got good marks despite faring poorly in their exams,” he added.
