On a Solo Flight

Delhi-based guitarist and music composer,Ssameer has been into music since he was in school. Passion turned into profession,and soon Ssameer found himself jamming with rock band Karma as a lead guitarist. “But I wanted to do much more,” says the 28-year-old,who ventured into independent music direction and has composed for films like Sarhad Paar,Hum Phir Mile Na Mile,and the forthcoming Life Ki Toh Lag Gayee.

“I produced music for a couple of tracks for UK-based singers including brothers Jaan and Arya,” says Ssameer,who realised his forte was experimenting with music genres. Still with Karma,Ssameer has now released his solo debut album Saiyyaan in

the city. The album is a fusion of contemporary rock and traditional Punjabi folk. “The album,Saiyyaan,which means beloved,is an experiment with the jugalbandi between the guitar,tumbi,dhol and algoze,” says the singer.

The seven-track album by Speed Records,boasts foot-tapping music with the energy of Punjabi folk music. The album also features Daler Mehndi,Gora Rapper and the band Desi Hustlers,in songs like Jatta and Singh Surma. While Ssameer is on vocals,the music has been composed by Manpreet Singh.
