One dead,nine injured as bus rams into tree

A 50-year-old man was killed while nine others were injured when a Haryana Roadways bus rammed into a tree near Sultanpur village on Saturday morning.

A 50-year-old man was killed while nine others were injured when a Haryana Roadways bus rammed into a tree near Sultanpur village on Saturday morning.

According to Sub-Inspector (SI) Maan Singh,In-charge Police Post Barwala,the ill-fated bus of the Chandigarh depot was going from Panchkula to Nariangarh and was ferrying 25 passengers at the time of accident.

The accident took place at around 11 am near BRS Dental College in Sultanpur. The driver of the bus,which was reportedly being driven at a high speed,lost control and went off-road. It was brought to standstill when it rammed into an eucalyptus tree by the roadside.

Pawan Kumar,a resident of Bataur village in Barwala,who was sitting in the front rows of the bus suffered serious injuries and died on the way to hospital. He is survived by his wife and three sons.

Nine others passengers were injured in the accident. While eight were admitted to Government Hospital Sector 6,Panchkula,one of the seriously injured was shifted to PGIMER.

“Rajpal,the bus driver,claimed that steering was jammed which resulted in bus losing control. However,the passengers alleged that he (Rajpal) was driving at a high speed and was also using his mobile phone which resulted in the accident,” said SI Maan Singh.

Police have booked the bus driver for causing death due to negligence. A case has been registered at the Pinjore police station.
